"Education" word should be replaced with "examination"

The problem with Indian Education system is ,
"Marks are more important than MORALS."

First and the most important fact is that... Indian education system is not really accessible for many. And Majority of the poor in India drops out of school before they get to the 10th grade.

Besides several elite schools in India, the subjects taught in high school usually range from languages, mathematics, core sciences, economics, accounting and commerce. In essence, we're not given much freedom of choice or freedom to explore. If anyone tries to learn something... the first thing it comes in to his mind is.. "It is OUT OF SYLLABUS".

Exam oriented culture.... Students are only taught lessons relevant for the examination. Other points/theories which might be very important for the proper understanding of a subject are neglected just because it does not feature in the examination syllabus..

Unfortunately, our co-curricular activities lack behind a lot which would actually produce a well rounded individual. We end up being egoistical, individualistic narrow minded individual.

- Academics should be your first priority, but not your only priority.

Literally here everyone is groomed to become an engineer or a doctor. Ask a child about their career dreams and you'll get a sincere and honest answer, based on their dreams and passions. These are all very efficiently destroyed as the time passes...... :(

  • Board exams:

Seriously,The word "Education" in Indian Education System should be replaced by "Examination". Because they give more priority to exams than what they learn.

The emphasis on this is plain mad and for no reason what-so-ever. I mean what's the big deal? The society considers this a big test of intelligence where it sounds like a Do-or-Die situation.

Literally, Every career decision is approved by our parents and society. We are just afraid of making a mistake and being pointed at. This comes from the very fact that since childhood, our teachers will label anyone different to be a "problem child" who needs psychiatric help, thanks to their limitations as incomplete human beings. We are so scared that we even make our parents choose our life partners.

  •  Parents want their kid to top the class based on "Marks". Mom wants to boast about how her kid topped the class every freaking time. Dad wants to be happy about hearing the fact that his kid topped the class.

  •  The Schools demand the Teachers to produce 100% results (all students pass all exams) and to have trained students who topped the City, or District or State. The Schools want to boast about the facts that it produced the Top result in the State or District based on "Marks", and it was able to make every student pass all the exams. This way their rating amid the parents, who look out for good schools to put their kids into, will be high.
  • The teachers are appreciated/rewarded when they produce good results with "Good Result" defined as "All the students s/he taught passed the exam" or "A student he taught topped the school".

Note: It doesn't matter for them how much the student is pressurized to get this result...

  • The kid receives motivation from Teaches, Parents, and every freaking relative to get high marks in ALL subjects. He is taught to feel good and get inspired by the fact that he got good marks.

All these are based on "Marks" obtained in exams. This is just a sad business played upon the students.

Not many support/appreciate when a kid thinks out of the box. His thoughts are buried from the very beginning simply by pouring showers of demotivating reactions and a demeaning attitude towards his actions. He is taught to concentrate on getting more of that goddamn fucking "Marks". So this simple concept of "Judging a kid based on his marks in exams" leads to other derived concepts like "mugging up", "Tuition System", "Money oriented education - more marks to earn more money in the future", etc...

  • Mindset of parents..

Indian parents who tell their children " you have to study till 10th then your life is settled". The same is repeated for 12th, for engineering exams etc etc. So the child just waits for that moment to come when he is able to finally relax. It never comes. Life is full of hardwork, it never stops. Instead of this parents should teach their children to work hard and honestly as a matter of principle always.

Parents are truly happy knowing their kids are doing what they love. In our culture, parents are happy when their kids are doing what society loves.

Most parents themselves force their kids into the well to study, but not to learn. If parents stop regarding academics as the only priority, a lot of changes will take place in the Indian schooling system. But no parent wants to think different.

  • Points to be noted.. :P

In India good scores are important than practical knowledge and intelligence.

Things which are used in practical life(industry) are never thought.

If you are under a caste the probability of getting a good college is very high than the one with good score.

And last but not the least...
"I start studying the morning of the exam" sounds to be a smart thing.
  • Indian Education Logic:

If you want to be a programmer, you must first learn about the various components of carbon and the forces acting on a body in a projectile motion.

In short, education is seen as a means to obtain a job. Job being the end, more emphasis is paid by students on maintaining the perfect score, couple this with the fact that exams are predictable, so it is easy to score with a day or two preparation. Thus whatever is learnt is not learnt with the intent to retain and use.

And it isn't just our education system, it is our mentality too. Here, we grow up believing that nothing matters more than money. All we want is a good salary when we get out of college. Thus, we take up the mainstream courses which are absolutely ridiculous and require a lot of donkey work. No one even cares about making them better because in the end, we get just what we want, a good job and a grand salary.

"Everybody is a genius. If you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree, it will live it's whole life believing that it's stupid"  - Albert Einstein

Once an individual finds what he/she loves to do, mind you, nothing stops him/her. You take the leap of faith, you no longer stay a follower. You become a LEADER.

And these are just my views..
